THE CONFERENCE
In April 2002, the State Archives of the Republic of Poland called together Polish and American scholars and broadcasters to consider and discuss the role of RFE in 20th-century Polish history. In addition to a celebratory conference, the occasion was marked by the opening of an exhibition of historic photographs from the collections of the Polish State Archives, RFE/RL Inc., the Hoover Archives, and private individuals, as well as by the presentation of a book entitled Around the RFE Polish Service and an audio compilation of original recordings from the RFE broadcast archive.

FUTURE DIRECTIONS
The conference did not only celebrate the past, however; representatives of the Hoover Institution and the Polish State Archives marked the occasion by signing an agreement to create a searchable database of the broadcast archive of RFE/RL's Polish-language service. The project, to be funded by the Taube Foundation, will allow researchers to work effectively with the archives held by Hoover and the Polish State Archives (copies).[+]
